A slow weekend in Porto, on foot

Two days, one pair of shoes and no itinerary. The tiled streets reward anyone willing to walk uphill twice.

Cities, towns and rooms worth walking through.

Porto is a city built on a slope, and it wants you to notice. Every walk from the river begins with a climb.

I gave myself two days and one rule: no taxis, no trams, no plan. I walked 38 kilometres, most of them uphill.

The reward is the tiles. Whole streets are faced in blue and white azulejos, and in late afternoon the light turns them almost silver.

Stay near Bonfim, away from the river crowds. Eat lunch late, like everyone else. And bring shoes you already trust.
